“May We Be One”

“I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.”                                                                         - John 17:20-21

Last Sunday, the message was about Jesus’ declaration that He will build His church. If we want to participate in building the church, we have to work from Jesus’ blueprint, which is outlined in the Bible.

This Sunday, we read from John 17 where Jesus prays for Himself, His disciples, and for all believers, like you and me. It’s important to note that Jesus prayed for unity among believers. He prays for His people to experience a spiritual unity that is like the oneness of the Father and the Son.

Unity among believers doesn’t require uniformity. Every member is not the same, but we are joined together by the Master Builder. Also, unity doesn’t depend on compromise. We have to make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification (Romans 14); but, 2 Timothy 2:24-26 encourages us to avoid compromising the essentials with courtesy and respect.

Our unity is based on Jesus Christ and the example He set for us on how to live with one another. As we mature in our faith, people will stop seeing “us” and began to see a unified reflection of the Holy Spirit living within us. It’s been said that, “you may be the only Bible a person will ever read.” Jesus said that some will believe in Him because of our witness, so we must make sure that our witness is unified with the truth of the gospel and the love of Christ for all.

Come join us! Sundays @ 10:45 AM
