Fundraising for Haiti Homes

Posted By Pastor Ray on February 4, 2010

Our Homes for Haiti Committee has made a commitment to raise funds to build two new homes inĀ  Haiti. This is not a project connected to the recent earthquake, but to the hurricanes of 2008. The Church of the Brethren committed to build 100 homes. They have built 73 and have 27 to go, but now all houses will be built from designated funds. To build two homes, our church will need to raise from $8,000 to $10,000.

To do this, we have set two fundraisers for the next three weeks. First, we will be having a yard sale at our meeting place, the Biscayne Gardens Civic Association Hall, on Saturday, February 27. The times are yet to be set, but likely, the sale will run from the morning until mid afternoon. So we are asking members to bring all of their good quality, but unwanted items on that day and to pitch in to help. We had a successful sale two years ago, and we are planning on another one now.

Second, we will be selling coupon books to friends and neighbors over the next three weeks. Books are available for businesses in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County. We would love to see each one in the church sell up to 15 books. The cost per book will be $20.00, but the books will pay for themselves in a short time. All coupons are good until December 31. Fine restaurant, fast food places, tire and auto repair shops, and much more are includeed. And it is for a great cause. If you live in this area and are interested in purchasing a book, let us know through this site, and we will see that someone gets one to you. You can also request a book by calling (305) 962-0138. Thank you.

The Homes for Haiti Committee includes Jonathan Cadette (Chair), Jessica Cadette, Amy Forde, Brad Ginter, Damian Izquierdo, Tamara Pluviose, and Mona Lou Teeter, with Pastor Ray Hileman as an ex-officio member.
